HOCKEY HIT OF THE WEEK — 3-29-12
I must warn you, this is not a pretty sight to see.
Boston Bruin Zdeno Chara hits Montreal Canadien Max Pacioretty on March 9, 2011. This is a classic example of a bruiser (Chara) breaking the rules (not releasing when the puck is no longer in the opposing player’s possession) and the other player (Pacioretty) paying the ultimate penalty (concussion and broken vertebrae).
This is the type of cheap shot that I speak of when I say that the offender (Chara) should not be allowed back on the ice until the injured player (Pacioretty) returns, even if that means a full year.
I don’t mean to say that Chara intentionally slammed Pacioretty into this particular (dangerous) area of the glass. What I am saying is that Chara had plenty of time to release and chose not to, which directly resulted in this serious injury.
Take a look and let me know what you think.
